There's no scalebar feature right now, but you're right, it's highly needed. Give me a day or two and it will be added.
I just added the Scalebar. It's a checkbox below the map background. Right now it's pretty basic and set to kilometers but I'll add setup options later.

I'll post an announce in the news.

Hope it helps !
Hi all,

I'm trying to get the MapsGeek public maps on GoogleEarth but I can't get it to work properly. It's working on other WMS Server but GoogleEarth keeps misplacing the maps.

Has anyone an idea ?

Thanks !
Hej Sarah,

Yes, it would be nice. That shouldn't really be a problem, but right now I'm working on the possibility to import more than just Shapefile vector files: KML, MapInfo, GML, GeoConcept etc...

Right now, the legend is sorted in this order : Labels on top, then the unique Value, then the Minimum value and then the Title you enter. The problem Alvaro had is with ordering numerical values, 40 goes in between 3 and 5. That's mainly because it sorts it out by converting it to text, I'll add that to the huge todo list!

Nice job on the Norway map by the way!!

Hi Alvaro,

I've seen the problem myself. Working on a fix. It actually only occurs when you set the extent via the layer's extension. I doesn't happens when you use the OpenLayer set extent application.

It happens because the WMS image is not resized at the same time as the vector layers. Only happens on some WMS Server, not all of them though...

Anyway, thanks for pointing it out !
Just a quick follow up on this bug, it's now fixed !

If one of your map still display it incorrectly, just reset the extent with the set extent option or by matching one of the layer's.
Hi Mashicuna,

First, use the States layer. We'll add the counties later.

To center on Iowa, use the Set Extent tool (top bar, third from the left). A new window will open, hold SHIFT on drag around Iowa. Click Set Extent.

To gray out the neighbors, create a data layer on the States layer. Name it quickly, and choose List. Give the value 1 to all the States except Iowa. There's only 8 states available at that zoom level so it's not too long. Hit Send, that creates a new layer containing all the States except Iowa. You can now set the color for the States outside Iowa and the state of Iowa separately.

You can now add the Counties layer.

Hope it helped...
I created a .csv file from a UN database but when trying to upload it returned the message
The filename /var/www/vhosts/mapsgeek.com/httpdocs/xls/UNdata Mobile phone users 2006 world5.csv is not readable

csv files are listed as a readable file
Any advice?

CSV is not enabled yet for data upload, only for geometry.
You can either wait a couple of days so I write the csv upload script or convert your csv to .xls and upload it. Excel file work fine right now.
Hi all,

Here is our To Do list, that's what we're working on at the moment:
- A new Design, with Amaury from Elixir's help!
- More than one key per data. So far it's only possible to link on one key column, well, given the limitations that implies we're working on allowing any column as the key.
- Live data feed, to map data streams from your site.

And that's it for the moment.
Don't hesitate to give us any idea!

I just tried with a 2008 Washington UNSD 2.3Mo file straight from the US Census FTP to MapsGeek and it's working just fine...
What file do you need ? I'm not sure but I think there's a 4Mo limit for upload, that might be the problem...
Hello Alex
There's a problem with the upload of CSV Files: when affecting the rows only the first row of the file appears? Not sure it's a bug but it would be nice to see all columns...

Thanks and keep up the great work!
Hello !

A little follow-up on what's cooking!

- The new design is on its way, we have a new logo (probably temporary), the rest of the website should follow soon...
- The live data stream feed thingy is up and running ! It's working great actually, have a look at our sample script !

Coming next:
- Working on enabling more than one key per data source. That should be ready in a week or two.

Hi !

This is an interesting site, encouraging the community to collaborate on maps.

Here's another site, also using a creative commons license: The Full Wiki maps

Some examples:

See what happened all around the world in 1945.
See where the drug trade is carried out.
Barack Obama has the most international background of any recent US president. See it mapped.
The 2010 Haiti earthquake and the international response.

After I upload my data from excel and the "Please affect the rows" window comes up, the labels I'm asked to choose between are all a bunch of nonsense characters, rather than the actual labels from the excel file. Any idea why?
Thanks!
